Hale is located in Plainfield Township in Iosco County. C. D. Hale came from New York State and began lumbering in the northwest part of Iosco County about 1880. His camps were located at the lake there, and the lake and the creek, as well as this village were named for him. A flag station on the Detroit, Bay City & Alpena Railroad. Hale is the Gateway to the Huron National Forest, which provides winter sports enthusiasts with great opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Lakes, ponds and steams and the Au Sable River provide some of the best fresh water fishing in the nation.
